About the event
21 October is National Apple Day (in the UK), and to mark the occasion we are going to look at fruits in all their forms, and what they might represent.
From harvest to cooking, as a symbol of fertility and health, of love and sexuality, of all that is tempting and sometimes out of reach, the apple is rich with symbolism. Then there’s the fig, the cherry, the peach, the plum, the pomegranate and strawberry – all deliciously ripe with poetic potential.
Join Sharon Black, author of Things That Fruit in Darkness, for an exploration of all things fruity. We’ll look at folk tales and grocery baskets, consider our own metaphoric harvests, and look closely at the sweet or sour things growing in our backyards.
Sharon Black is from Glasgow and lives in a remote valley of the Cévennes mountains. Much of her work focuses on place and on…
