Deborah Zafer
Founder and Director
Deborah is the Director and founder of European Writers Salon. In her professional life (known as Deborah Brooks) she is a strategy consultant responsible for delivering large-scale projects across the public and voluntary sector and a former senior civil servant. A passionate reader and writer, her writing can be found at www.deborahzafer.com. She lives in London with her family and rabbits.

Roya Khatiblou
Associate Director
Roya is an Iranian- and British-American writer based in Birmingham, UK. Her work has appeared in Salon, Litro, and Chicago Review. She received a DYCP grant from Arts Council England, a Short Story Apprenticeship from Word Factory, and is a member of Writing West Midlands’ Room 204 programme. In the US, she organized for Pygmalion Literary Festival and Reading Room at the Accord. Find her at roya-khatiblou.com.

Eleonora Balsano
Associate Director
Eleonora Balsano is an Italian-born writer based in Brussels. In 2023, Eleonora was nominated for a Pushcart Prize, long listed for the Wigleaf Top 50 and in 2021 she was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize. She is the host and producer of Chosen Tongue, a podcast dedicated to translingual writers and their journeys. Katherine Plumhoff
Associate Director
Katherine Plumhoff lives in Spain. She works as a strategic project manager across operations and brand projects for companies like Headspace and Toggl and nonprofits like NeighborShare. Her stories appear in X-R-A-Y, The Forge, Flash Frog, Gone Lawn, Heavy Feather Review, and Best Small Fictions. Her essays have been published in Litro and Off Assignment. Barbara Diggs
Associate Director
A Washington, DC native and long-time resident of France, Barbara has written several non-fiction books for adolescents and her fiction has appeared in numerous literary journals, including SmokeLong Quarterly and Fractured Lit, and received Highly Commended awards in the The Bridport Prize competition and the Bath Flash Fiction Award.
